Wakala is the channelling of four good pals’ musical and artistic preoccupations. It’s a continuate combination of these four people’s ambitions, perseverance and illusions, which takes the physical expression of metal music: as a translation of rage, aggressivity, hopelessness, self-transcendence or happiness, but most of all, as a door wide open, through which a real, honest and poetic message means to be delivered to whoever wants to listen to it and share it. “Jardim in erva” is that message; it’s the reification of so many arduous efforts and ideas in motion. A ten song succession with the objective of making the wise listener dance upon the heads of those who ignore that salvation is immanent, and takes the names of creation, art, and music.

Wakala formed between 2002 and 2003 in Granada, Spain, going through various changes in it’s lineup. It consists of: Andrés Soria, drums; Joaquín Arroyo, guitar; Hugo Sánchez Ochoa, vocals; and Agustín Mingorance, bass. Wakala has played all the best-known venues around Granada, such as Sala el tren, Industrial Copera, Planta baja, or la Telonera; and some other spanish cities like Valencia, Madrid, Málaga or Jaén.

Wakala’s discography consists of a first demo, recorded at Pig Studios in Granada (Lagartija Nick, Enrique Morente, Texas Ferry, Anphetamine Eaters…). After some changes in style, a second demo, containing four songs, was recorded at Bomtrack Studios, Úbeda, under the supervision and production of David F. Castro (Xkrude, At least, Demiurgo, Blindfall, Zahara Eléctrica, Dogma…), around March 2006. This record had a physical distribution of more than 500 copies, as well as through the internet (it can be downloaded from Wakala’s myspace profile); and got them many gigs around Spain. Finally, after further line-up and style changes, “Jardim in Erva” is their first LP. “Jardim in Erva” has been recorded at Bomtrack Studios, again under the inmaculate production work of David F. Castro, during October, November and December 2008, and will be available for purchase or download through Wakala’s Myspace profile this Spring 2009.

Support act of bands such as Def Con Dos, Berri Txarrak, Xkrude, Ill Niño, God Forbid or All Shall Perish; finalists (at their Granada edition) and guest act at Madrid’s Emergenza Music Festival; finalists at Espacio Libre Music Contest in 2007; appearances on local, national and international radio stations (such as the mexican Radioxtasis), as well as on local newspapers and magazines regarding their formation and concerts; are just a few facts that may give some info about the band and its whereabouts. .
