James Dewitt Yancey (ur. 7 lutego 1974 roku, zm. 10 lutego 2006 roku), znany także jako J Dilla lub Jay Dee, urodzony w Detroit - mieście muzyki soulowej. Już jako dzieciak bardzo lubił słuchać muzyki, często odwiedzał sklepy muzyczne, w których kupował nowe nagrania. Szczególnie wciągnęła go muzyka Jack'a McDuff'a.
