There are several musical projects with the name Asterisk. The first: Asterisk (or “A*” as they have been called occasionally) was formed in Umeå, Sweden out of pure boredom in the autumn of ’99 (possibly the only grindcore band to ever arise from that area). There are at least two groups calling themselves The Perishers. 1) The most well-known group is a Swedish indie rock band. Pēteris Vasks (born April 16, 1946) is a Latvian composer. Vasks was born in Aizpute, Latvia, to a family of a Baptist pastor. He trained as a double-bass player, and played in several Latvian orchestras before entering the State Conservatory in Vilnius in the neighboring Lithuania to study composition, as he was prevented from doing this in Latvia due to Soviet repressive policy toward Baptists.
