The Heroine Sheiks was a New York, United States-based noise rock band until early 2006, when the band called it quits. It began in 1999 as a collaboration of Shannon Selberg, George Porfiris, Norman Westberg and John Fell. Selberg emerged as a major songwriter in the complete history of the band whose sound was darker and more sinister than his previous work in The Cows. The Sheiks were a portuguese band formed in 1963 by Paulo de Carvalho (drums and vocals), Fernando Chaby (guitar), Carlos Mendes (vocals, guitar and bass) and Jorge Barreto (guitar). Nicknamed the portuguese Beatles, they played the typical rock and roll of that time and of wich they were the percursors in Portugal. In 1964 Barreto leaves the band being replaced by Edmundo de Brito Silva (bass). .

Mississippi Sheiks – zespół bluesowy założony w Jackson w roku 1926. Nazwa grupy wzięła się z filmu Rudolfa Valentino Szejk (1921, ang. The Sheik). Trzon grupy stanowili Walter Vinson (gitara) i Lonnie Chatmon (skrzypce), razem z grupą często występowali też Bo Carter i Sam Chatmon. Pierwszym hitem zespołu był utwór "Sittin' on Top of the World", który nagrali później m.in. Howlin' Wolf, Ray Charles i Cream. Mississippi Sheiks nagrali razem ponad 80 utworów, które można znaleźć na wielu składankach, w tym czterech albumach Complete Recorded Works wydanych przez Document Records. .
