Teka was from Ruatahuna in the Ureweras (1937), and had a musical childhood. His mother played mouth organ and clarinet, and his father was a saxophonist with a bush band. After learning guitar and saxophone at woolshed dances with teenage bands, Teka moved to Sydney and began a six-year stand with the Maori Volcanics showband on the Japan and Pacific circuit. Eftekasat was established in late 2001 in Cairo, Egypt and gave its debut performance in February 2002 at the Cairo Jazz Club. The show was acclaimed as unique and original. Eftekasat is one of very few Egyptian independent music groups to have managed to establish themselves on the scene in such a little time. Their original composition can be classified as oriental jazz/fusion/rock and sometimes world music. Tekara is an alias of a famous trance music producer Matt Darey. The name is derived from that of far-east toy company Takara. He rarely uses this alias. It was used for two of his releases, Breathe In You (1997) and Wanna Be An Angel (2004) and several remixes. He worked under many other aliases, including Lost Tribe. .
