Metalcore é uma fusão entre Thrash Metal e Hardcore Punk. O Movimento foi iniciado na cidade de Nova Iorque na década de 80 e está atualmente no ápice. Bandas como Atreyu, As I Lay Dying , Bullet For My Valentine e Killswitch Engage estão entre os principais nomes hoje em dia.
Algumas bandas de Metalcore recebem também influencias diretas e indiretas do Heavy Metal e do Hard Rock em suas partes melódicas e harmonias, em bandas como Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold, Killswitch Engage, Bullet For My Valentine e Haste the Day. Outro estilo que influencia fortemente o Metalcore é o Death Metal Melódico ou Melodic Death com forte presença em bandas como All That Remains, As I Lay Dying, Still Remains entre outras.
Considerando que o estilo é uma mistura de Hardcore que “flerta” e se “combina” com varias vertentes do Heavy Metal e que se sabe que algumas bandas de Metalcore de hoje já tiveram o Death Melódico ou o Groove/Thrash Metal como sua sonoridade principal, enquanto outras hoje em dia não se reconhecem mais dentro do estilo, porem ainda são vistas e indicadas pela mídia, como bandas de Metalcore, um dos motivos pode ser por terem estas bandas participado do movimento que se originou na década de 90, conhecido como New Wave of American Metal, (NWOAHM) ou Nova Onda de Heavy Metal Americano formado por bandas de diferentes estilos dentro do Rock, Heavy Metal e suas vertentes.
