The 'vinyl maniacs' Paine' (Minù Painè Cuadrelli) & Dj Fonx (Michele Fontanelli) first met in Milano in 1997. Their shared great passion for black music (from vintage jazz to the modern electronic evolutions) and gentle obsession for the12 inches push them to dj several times together. In 1999 they decide to start I Maniaci Dei Dischi project, a dj set with 3 to 6 turntables playing at once over-imposing and blending sound fx, accappellas, intrumental short pieces, scratches and a selection of many dance rhythms (hip hop, funk, soul, jazz, drum'n'bass, house, dub, latin, reggae..). This combination has a great feedback from the audience and press, being the only example in Italy of dancefloor-turntable-band. From 2001 the duo start working in the studio ('Bene' the first track they made together was on Paine's second album 'Spontaneous', 2002/03) and recording sessions for National Radio Rai2, while djing monthly at Cox 18 (Milano) and all over Italy. In 2002 the young turntablist Dj Herrera and the bass player Bombo join the band, playing live at Arezzo Wave Festival and co-composing the tracks for the debut LP ''Hey Presto!' (out in mid-2004 on Temposphere Records). 'Our House EP' and 'Smiling Faces Ep' were the first releases on 12" by I Maniaci Dei Dischi and had great support from international djs and radios aside from being licensed in Japan and Austria. In late 2003 IMDD start 'Ritmo!' a weekly radio show on ControRadio (Firenze), where they broadcast live session and guest mixes from djs like Bonobo (Ninja Tune), Jon Kennedy (Grand Central), Robin Hoffmann (Pulver) and almost all the italian jazz/new grooves djs. Their regular sessions are a 5 hours-set of constant real-time remixing and improvisation on 6 turntables, 3/4 mixers, effects, samples and live bass. In 2004 they're preparing a complete live show with added guitar, saxophone and trumpet players. .
