Short-lived super-group featuring alastair galbraith (also of the rip, dave mitchell (the 3ds, goblin mix, ghost club etc), robbie muir (the rip) and, of course, peter jefferies (nocturnal projections, this kind of punishment). during their brief tenure they put out just an ep (a 500-copy limited edition 12" from xpressway), but managed to play an amazing set for kfjc - a diverse radio-station run out of san francisco, as part of their dunedin in sound live recording in 2002 as a reunion of sorts. the recordings are available on the internet, though no official release has ever been announced. Mode Plagal belong to a group of bands who, using the jazz technique, have created a unique musical idiom. An idiom with references to traditional music and verse, to Byzantine sounds, funk rhythms and many other musical elements which do not belong to just one genre, or have not been used per se, but only as influences. The Athens based band was formed in 1990 by Thodoris Rellos (saxophone, voice), Kleon Antoniou (guitars, voice) and Takis Kanellos (drums). The Turkish group Bosphorus and Greek Mode Plagal worked together on a 2005 release "Beyond the Bosphorus". The Bosphorus symbolises the difference between the two worlds, which are (at least in musical form) captured within this project. As the Mode Plagal website describes: "The two groups try with their music to capture the echo of the indescribable sound of this crossroad through time and space." .
