There is more than one group called the Tubes, which is kind of like saying there was one really great band called the Tubes and another that was never heard of by anybody. But we're thorough here, so here is information on both:
1) The Tubes are a San Francisco-based theater rock band, popular in the mid 1970s and early 1980s, known for their live performances that combined music performances with many different unique costumes and in some acts they wore leotards with painted on nipples and pubic hair (neither of which points are relevant for evaluating their artistic/musical/political relevance)....
Loose Tubes was a 21-piece UK co-operative band that played original music in the 1980s which became the focal point of a renaissance in British Jazz. It spun out of a rehearsal band put together by Graham Collier in 1983 and played its first London gig 1984. Their first album was released in 1985.
