Mark has been writing and recording his own songs since 1985. He has been influenced and inspired by 60's pop, 70's punk & new wave, 80's indie & alternative and 90's Brit Pop. In the early 90s he adopted the name, "The Shining Hour" and has produced a number of home made CD albums. In 1998, Germany's Apricot Records released a limited edition 7 inch single EP entitled "Five o'Clock Rise" which sold out. Shining Vril is an ongoing gnostic musical and lifestyle project comprising Jonh Murphy and anybody who wishes to be associated with him in these endeavours. Jonh Murphy was informed early on in his "career" that playing, composing and performing experimental and passionate music was a foolproof method of meeting and befriending members of the opposite gender. The band comprised of Duncan Baxter (Vocals), Dan MacBean (Guitar), Mark Heaney (Drums / ex-threshold, ex-the seahorses), Simon Jones (Bass) and Simon Tong (Guitar, Keyboards), the latter two both ex-members of The Verve.
