Aphora was a portuguese Dark Ambient/Noise musical project active from 1992 to 1996 by José Vilela (he also recorded music as Corvu Prettu, Karfreitrg, Maledieti Daemones, Lachrima Christi, Negrume and Sacramentum) who also ran the underground tape label Maldoror Tapes. Aphora's music is highly abstract and monotonous, based on noise effects and, sometimes, sampled religious gregorian-like chants, and it often deals with what appears to be religious (Christian) themes and Death on its song titles. .
