Futuristic swag | en

Futuristic swag is a melodic form of Trap that emerged in the late 2000s in Atlanta. Originally pioneered by J Money and Yung L.A., the genre took a more playful, Snap-influenced and party-oriented approach to trap music, which was at the time dominated by the aggressive and heavy music of artists such as Gucci Mane and Jeezy. In addition to their buoyant and danceful beats, futuristic swag rappers frequently employ sing-rapping, catchy hooks, and joyful intonations.

The genre would receive popularity through some successful hits such as Roscoe Dash’s “All the Way Turnt Up” and Fast Life Yungstaz’ “Swag Surfin'”, though most of the genre didn’t see much success outside its scene. Notably active between 2008 and 2010, futuristic swag had a relatively short life span, mostly disappearing after 2012. Nevertheless, futuristic swag inspired hugely influential rappers such as Young Thug, Future, Chief Keef or producers such as London on da Track, and can be credited as a forerunner of Bop music, too. .
