Microtonal music can be found in all categories of music, including classical, international, and improvisational. It can be divided into subcategories of acoustic, electric, and synthesis. Examples of microtonal acoustic artists are Harry Partch and Lou Harrison; Glenn Branca would fall under microtonal electric; and the music of both Wendy Carlos and Robert Rich could be described as microtonal synthesis. .
