A revolutionary style of country which originated in the 1970's, Outlaw Country bucked the softer Nashville sound of the time with equal parts traditional Honky Tonk, Folk storytelling, and counter-culture attitude. Outlaw Country artists would grow their hair long and write songs about drinking, all while backed by instrumentation far barer than the lush orchestration that was typical of the Nashville sound of the era. Although replaced on the charts by new styles, Outlaw Country has proven to be a long lasting and vastly influential, vital to any understanding of country as a whole. .
