The Scooterist Scene began back in the 1960's with the MOD's (modernists) presenting an alternative image of the modern youth and music - in contrast to the rockers of the time.
Smartly dressed, using thier parka's (army style, olive green 3/4 lenth coat) to keep warm and protecting the clothing underneath (suits/fred perrys/ben sherman) and chosing Italian scooters (Vespas & Lambretta's) as a cheap, stylish mode of transport.
Since the 60s the scene has taken many changes, including a strong revival during the 1980's which had a lot to do with the release of the iconic film Quadrophenia by The Who.
Although there were problems and violence at rallies during the 80's with different music influencing people other than MODs who also decided that scooters were for them, it eventually settled down to what it now a well-supported, healthy scene.
MOD's, in general still stick to the traditional smart clothing over which is the parka whereas The Scooterist will prefer jeans/doc martens/ military surplus clothing and bomber jackets.
Scooter Rallies (live music, scooter custom show, games, drinking, dancing, and socialising) are mostly held in the Summer and usually at seaside locations around the country.
Scooter rallies are organised by National Organisations such as British Scooter Riders Association and local clubs, the majority of which also produce a cloth 'rally patch' for each one.
Rally Patches are given to riders upon arrival and often sewn on The Scooterists Bomber jacket or 'flighty'
The main influence still being the MOD scene the music played at today's scooter rallies also includes Northern Soul/Motown, 2-tone & Ska/reggae, Indie, Punk and Physcobilly.
