The Paper Cranes are a Canadian indie pop band from Victoria, British Columbia. The band is comprised of the husband and wife duo of Ryan McCullagh (Guitar,Vocals) and Miranda Roach (Keyboard), Braeden Paterson (Guitar), Alex Bodman (Bass) and Jeff Mitchelmore (Drums). Despite several line-up changes during their career the group remains centered around the husband-wife team. The band take their name from the book, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr. Cranes are a shoegaze/dream pop group fronted by Alison Shaw and formed in 1986. They were originally based on the south coast of England in Portsmouth. The band released their first album on vinyl, Self Non Self in July 1989. The Newcranes comprised a group of young musicians playing up-tempo mandolin-oriented Ukrainian-influenced folk/rock music, who were based in the Derby and Nottingham areas of the UK in the early 1990s. The band comprised: Wolly (mandolin, main vocals), Mark (guitars, vocals), Micky (accordion, vocals), David (Bass guitar), and Chris (Drums). Wolly Dyszkant now records under the name DyMyR.
