"ghost rock" is a term (along with "ghost pop") that was coined by nick curran of selah.selah circa 2006-2007 to describe and classify his own music. Unsatisfied with any existing genres and given his near obsession with the supernatural and paranormal, ghost rock/ghost pop seemed to be a perfect fit. Sound-wise, "ghost rock" is a genre of music that is closest in style to dream pop or shoegaze but usually without the "wall of noise" that Phil Spector is credited with and and an effect shoegaze is so widely known for. While some songs do demonstrate this style, the vast majority have a ghost-like quality, that is to say, a sound that is there but not there. melodies and tembres that haunt. and many songs are said to have been inspired by visions or voices. .
Nick and his selah.selah are still developing this "ghost rock" he's invented. With earlier works tending to sound much more grounded on earth. But as this progresses it seems as if the songs are going to sound more and more ethereal. .
