About Fiona

Fiona Joy Hawkins is an Australian Composer and Pianist who crosses from Contemporary Classical, to World, Jazz and New Age, her four albums have claimed many International awards.

After charting at #1 on the World New Age Radio Charts (across 9 countries) for all releases to date, she took out the prized Best Piano Album in the NAR Lifestyle Music Awards 2006 and a finalist in two genres for the LA Music Awards 2007. Having just won the Classical/Jazz category in the MusicOZ Awards for 2008 after being a finalist five times, and with a Piano Heaven Award, she hopes that Blue Dream will be the album to break through internationally.

Blue Dream is a 68 minute suite of music written by Fiona Joy Hawkins, produced by Grammy winner Will Ackerman (Founder of Windham Hill Records) and recorded at Imaginary Road Studios on a Steinway.

Blue Dream is now available on this website and soon to be in ABC shops in Australia. Featuring guest performances by Luka Bloom, this album goes from quiet contemplative piano to full orchestral, to world sounds, rhythms, jazz influences and back again to the perfect "Bach" moment - all in a breath. Blue Dream can best be described as World Fusion Piano.

The scope of what we contemplated in the beginning was so vast as to be nearly paralyzing, but with Fiona's talent, both as a composer and player, and a group of musicians of world-class caliber, a 67:50 suite of music resulted. The music itself spans a broad range of styles and ethnicities and yet (though we didn't know whether we'd succeed until the very end) is magically cohesive. It works! Never has faith been more rewarded. In the process we restored meaning to a word which has been sorely abused; Blue Dream is unique and I'm as proud of it (and Fiona) as anything I've ever worked on in my 35 year career of Grammy Awards and gold and platinum records."

As well as Luka Bloom and Will Ackerman, Blue Dream includes performances from some of the best instrumental artists in the world including T-Bone Wolk (Hall & Oates), Heather Rankin (The Rankin Family), Eugene Friesen (Paul Winter) and Jeff Haynes (Pat Methany), Jeff Oster and many more.

Classically trained as a pianist, Fiona's music is thematic and melodic. With a keen eye on film she has always been interested in creating music that evokes images and emotions and tells a story. "The idea of synchronicity has always intrigued me, colours, ideas and emotions all have corresponding sounds". Also a painter, Fiona incorporates original manuscripts of her music on the canvas to create bold colourful mixed media abstracts so you can hear and see her music. .
