Fiona Soe Paing is Scottish/Burmese, and sings sometimes in Burmese (the initial track on the No Man's Land album, Tamin Sah Pade) sometimes in English, but mostly in an invented "no man's language", for which the special alphabet and font were designed, in happy synchronicity, by Daniel Burman.

She was brought up in Aberdeen, North East Scotland, and early memories are of the sounds of her mum's records of Indian Ragas, African Hi Life and Hot Club swing being drowned out by the drones of her next door neighbour"s bagpipe practice. A childhood regime of Scottish Country Dancing and deep-fried Mars Bars led to an early escape to London and Brighton. She is now based near Auckland, New Zealand, on the paradise island of Waiheke. .
