Formed in 1998, Roofdog’s first ever show was a Black Friday gig in West Auckland, and over the last ten years they have developed their own unique sound and established a large following in the ska/punk scene. Founding members Jake Toms (vocals and guitar), Ross Hutchinson (bass and vocals) and Paul “Afa” Robinson (drums) were later joined by Tim Parsons (lead guitar).

Roofdog have played regularly throughout Auckland and most recently supported legendary UK punk band Stiff Little Fingers on their 2008 tour in Auckland at the PowerStation and in Christchurch at the Civic. They have played at the Ska Fest in Wellington and have also enjoyed a five year collaboration with Exponents front man Jordan Luck, playing at the annual Strummer Day tribute gig for Joe Strummer.

Members of Roofdog have enjoyed success in other bands including: Hilt Deth Becomes Shane, Badtown and well-known NZ ska band The Managers. From the politically conscious lyrics of ‘Drop the Bomb’ to dance floor favourite ‘Dance to the Moon’, Roofdog’s guitar driven sound has been described as being influenced by The Clash, in their later years, and ‘80s ska acts like The Specials.

Roofdog have featured on two compilations by Indie label Puppy Killer records ’Pick of the Litter 1’ (2003) and ’Pick of the Litter 2 (2004), and have also appeared on Global Routes ’Underground Resistance’ compilation. With their debut album due for release soon, plans for the coming months include a nationwide tour to promote the upcoming album and production of a music video. An overseas tour may also be on the cards in 2010. .
