Thanasis Papakonstantinou (Θανάσης Παπακωνσταντίνου), born in Tyrnavos, Greece on 26th April 1959, is a Greek singer and composer. He studied Mechanical Engineering in Thessaloniki, which he practised for a while before devoting himself exclusively to music. After military service, he had a spell of handcrafting traditional Greek musical instruments. Now living in Larissa, he writes music in the Greek folk style, stemming from his own recollections of traditional songs his parents sang while working in the field, often combining them with modern and rock elements. He began singing at the age of twenty, and after his military service in 1973 he went to Munich, Germany, to participate and sing at anti-dictator rallies attended by many Greeks.
