The term dream rock is associated with the musical style that mixes the atmospheric layers used by dream pop bands, the textures and moods of shoegaze and the powerful, distorted sound of early alternative rock.
As a genre, it was first used by the Costa Rican band The Great Wilderness to describe their music when they couldn't classify it in either one of the sub-genres mentioned above.
