A term used to describe the heavier Grunge bands such as Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Melvins who drew influence from the heavy riffs of Black Sabbath as opposed to their peers such as Nirvana & Pearl Jam who were more influenced by Punk music. It is also sometimes used to describe early 90s Alternative Metal bands such as Tool & Jane's Addiction who were concurrently popular alongside Grunge acts in the early 90s, and Nu metal bands like Korn, Staind and Stone Sour who emerged during the "Post-grunge" era. .
