Songs are a Sydney based band (featuring members of New Zealand's post-punk wailers This Night Creeps and Ela Stiles of sisterly-duo The Said Sos) that do only simple things. From their single-syllable handle to their hand-drawn artwork to their music itself; it all has to be simple. Born in mid-2007, Songs have only been playing to the public as of this year (2008). They have signed a deal with Sydney label Popfrenzy (home to other acts such as The Gossip, Black Mountain, Jeremy Jay, The Ruby Suns and a whole bunch more) and have since played shows with Deerhunter, Beach...

A sparsely lit home studio somewhere in Barcelona. One man with some friends humming along. Smell of cigarettes, cold coffee and guitar wood. Tiny tunes recorded in the moment when they are written. In single takes most of the time. Like notes in a diary. Or foot prints on a muddy path. .

Im Jahr 2002 schickte der Lehrer/Künstler Duncan Sumpner (*1975) aus Oughtibridge in Sheffield eine selbstgebrannte CD an das Plattenlaben FatCat Records mit Stücken, die er im Sommer in seiner Küche auf einem 4-Track Kassettenrekorder aufgenommen hatte. Das Werk machte einigen Eindruck, aber erst nach drei Jahren kam ein Kontakt zu Stande. Die alten Kassettenaufnahmen wurden digital remastered und im August 2005 als "Songs of Green Pheasant" veröffentlicht. Sein zweites Album, "Aerial Days" (2006), nahm Sumpner wieder allein zu Hause auf, diesmal allerdings auf einem 8-Track Aufnahmegerät. Dabei verarbeitete er vor allem Demos und älteres Material.
