This crossover-band from Haarlem is formed on 05-05-1987 by Kees Klomp (vocals, ex-DIPSTICKS) and Ernst van Baak (CITADEL, ex- DIPSTICKS, ex-ULTOR and ex-NIGGLER/ELIXER) together with Ben Humpig (guitar) Danny Vlaspoel (guitar) and Stein (drums). After the summer of 1987 Danny Vlaspoel and Stein left to form CRANK ADULTS and later EGGHEAD. Louis Melger (guitar) and Fred "Drifter" van Hensbergen (drums) replaced them..... Not completely satisfied with their name they changed their name from BRUTAL OBSCENITY to SHREDDED LEAD to HYBRID (1 gig, their first) to BRUTAL back to BRUTAL OBSCENITY..... A week before their second gig, Fred left and Stijn de Jong (CITADEL, WORLD WAR ROCKERS, and INDIREKT) filled in for this gig..... 1988 they started with their longest stabile line-up by recruiting Emiel Hannink (ex- PARAGON) on drums. They toured with SILENXCE (formerly known as INFERNO), DONOR, PESTILENCE and COURAGE, recorded (25 & 26-06-88) their first demo “Sorry Boys and Girls… But We Don’t Have An Image”. 1989 they went back to the studios to record (on 14, 15 & 16-04-89) their 2nd demo. Just before that CMFT from England contacted them that they wanted to sign them. So it happened. Their “It’s because the Birds and the Flowers…” get a lot of national and international attention from magazines (Aardschok, Oor and Metal Forces), radio and even Dutch television. Especially their “Image” of being a band with “No Image”, And their albums would be famous for their Disneyesque , Fairytale world comic covers in which you can spot them too, made by Dutch comic-artist en vocalist Roel Smith of COURAGE and later HUMAN ALERT..... This leads to more gigs, now also as support for bands like HADES(US), MIDAS TOUCH(SWE), GORILLA BISCUITS, MURPHY’S LAW, METAL CHURCH and EXCEL(one of their own favorites/influences) and tours with JEWEL (Autumn ’89) and DISABUSE (Spring ‘90)..... In the summer of ’89 Ernst was in the grindcore / death metal-project SUMMER OF ’89 together with Rob (vocals) and Sven (guitar)of COURAGE and Paul Bak (drums) of PUKIN” PENGUINS / BUBONIC PLAGUE. In 1990 Ernst played in DEADFELLER until they found a bass player in Anouska (former bass student of Ernst).... April 1990 They were back in the studios to record their second album “Dream Out Loud” In the summer they would continue the tour with DISABUSE in Italy, Spain and Portugal, but KEES decide to quit because of the delay of the release of “Dream Out Loud”. He formed DOWN RIGHT GROOVY in which also Louis played guitar and did some gigs with MORDRED (US). So they played his farewell gig on 28-09-’90 at a sold-out Patronaat in their hometown Haarlem. This has been recorded and was available for the fans who were there by filling in a special form and send to them. (There is 7 known Copies) Not only had they lost their singer but had also an album waiting to release..... Jelle Bakker (DONOR, FROZEN SUN, WITHIN TEMPTATION) suggested they give it a try with DEF P (rapper of OSDORP POSSE). They started to make some new songs and at the end of February did some gigs and contributed 2 tracks for the “Alle 666 Goed”-compilation (Displeased Records) which also includes tracks by DONOR, OSDORP POSSE,. It quiet didn’t work out. But this time they didn’t have to look long for a new vocalist. Esther (Hardcore/Metal-DJ at the TIVOLI, Utrecht), a fan of BRUTAL OBSCENITY already said at a gig at the TIVOLI That DEF P wasn’t the right one for BRUTAL OBSCENITY and volunteered to be their new one. So it happened....... PART 2 will follow soon........ .
