Mark Knopfler est un auteur, compositeur, guitariste et chanteur britannique, né le 12 août 1949 à Glasgow(Ecosse) de parents immigrés hongrois qui ont fui le nazisme pendant la guerre. Il commence à jouer de la guitare très jeune avec son frère David et compose quelques titres. Après diverses expériences musicales, les deux frères montent le groupe Dire Straits ("sans un rond" en français) en 1977 et rencontre le succès grâce au titre "Sultans Of Swing".
