L'origine del gruppo Mano Negra risale alla metà degli anni '80. Manu Chao (Manuel Chao) e Santiago Casariego sono cugini, con qualche amico musicista fondano il gruppo "Le Hot Pants". Antonio Chao, fratello di Manu (conosciuto anche come Tonyo del Borno), con il duo originale progetta di montare un gruppo aperto a tutte le influenze culturali, tanto nella musica quanto nei testi: La Mano Negra. Pata was the self-titled solo project of X Japan's guitarist. He released two albums: "Pata" (1993) and "Raised On Rock" (1995). The most of the tracks were instrumental. Vocal lines for the songs were performed by James Christian. Pata's music style sounded like hardrock with some blues elements. After the dissolution of X JAPAN in 1997 Pata formed his own project named P.A.F. Since 2000 he played in another japanese band called Dope HEADz till 2003.
