Die Instrumental-Band aus Santiago de Chile mit Anleihen bei Dream Theater, Meshuggah oder King Crimson startete ihre Karriere im Jahr 2001. Das Original Lineup bestand aus dem Drummer Cristóbal Orozco, Bassist Braulio Aspé und den Gitarristen Sebastián Lavín und Fernando Daza. In dieser Besetzung nahm die Band 2002 eine Demo-CD auf. Lavín verließ die Band jedoch bereits in 2003, um eigene Projekte voranzubringen und wurde durch Jorge Benavides ersetzt. Born and reared in the once dominant music metropolis of Detroit, Michigan — home of the Motown sound, a young Opus X had little trouble finding partners in rhythm and rhyme.
