Es gibt mehr als eine Band mit dem Namen Dissection: 1. Dissection war eine melodic Black / melodic Death Metal-Band, die 1989 in Strömstad (Schweden) gegründet wurde. Kreativer Kopf der Band war Sänger und Gitarrist Jon Nödtveidt (1975–2006). BIO: Dissection ging 1988 die Thrash-Metal-Band Siren’s Yell voraus, deren Besetzung bereits weitgehend dem Gründungs-Line-Up Dissections entsprach, sowie 1989 Nödtveidts und Öhmans Projekt Rabbit’s Carrot. Beide Bands wurden nach kurzer Zeit zugunsten von Dissection aufgelöst. Nach der Veröffentlichung des vielbeachteten Demos „The Grief Prophecy“ (1990) sowie der EP „Into Infinite Obscurity“ (1991) begannen Dissection 1992 die Arbeiten am Debüt-Album „The Somberlain“.
