Basnectar es un colectivo musical de San Francisco, California cuyo único miembro permanente es Lorin Ashton un talentoso dj, especialista en break beat. El grupo existe desde el año 2001 y viene sacando sencillos y discos en los cuales gusta de combinar y mezclar beats de todas las velocidades, tiempos, ritmos tan diferentes como ragtime, punk rock, blues, batucada, polka, salsa,ska, dub y hasta death metal. Un artista que sigue los patrones imposibles en lugar de mantenerse apegado a una formula fija. Nació y creció en Malawi, al este de África, y tuvo que irse exiliada a Londres a finales de los 80. Así descubrió el jazz, y cantantes como Sarah Vaughan y Billie Holiday .
