I Chants of Maldoror nascono nell'inverno del 1994 quando Adolphe (voce) e David (basso), provenienti da una band ultra underground (nessuno show, nessun lavoro ufficiale) di nome Mater Tenebrarum, decidono di dar vita insieme ad Echo ad un progetto di musica medievale/ritualistica. La band prende il nome dal poema di Isidore Ducasse conte di Lautréamont "I Canti di Maldoror", macabro capolavoro di surrealismo ante litteram. Dopo l'ingresso del chitarrista Loren il sound della band assume caratteristiche più "cruente", virando verso sonorità decisamente death-rock, così la nuova identità dei Chants of Maldoror nasce dall'unione delle suggestioni della prosa visionaria del Conte...

TMK or Thee Maldoror Kollective is one of the most original and intriguing post-black metal / industrial bands to emerge in years. Originated in Turin, Italy in the early 1990s, going through several changes (both in name and in members) before settling on Maldoror around 1998. As Maldoror, the band released two albums, Ars Magika and In Saturn Mystique, both strongly aligned with traditional Norwegian black metal but with several hints of the changes to come.
