The Blues Brothers Band are an American rhythm and blues band founded in 1978 by comedians Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi as part of a musical sketch on Saturday Night Live. Belushi and Aykroyd, respectively in character as lead vocalist "Joliet" Jake Blues and harpist/vocalist Elwood Blues, fronted the band, which was composed of well-known and respected musicians. 1964年にディプロマッツを脱退したデニー・レインやマイク・ピンダー等によって結成されたイギリスのロックバンド。 初期の代表曲の「Go Now」にも聴かれるように、当初はR&B色の強いバンドだったが、デニー・レインが脱退（デニーは後にポール・マッカートニーのウィングスに参加する）、ジョン・ロッジとジャステイン・ヘイワードを迎えたムーディー・ブルースはプログレッシブ・ロックの方向に舵をきることになる。 1967年には「Days Of Future Passde／デイズ・オブ・フューチャー・パスト」でオーケストラとの共演を行い、68年の「In Search Of The Lost Chord／失われたコードを求めて」では彼等の特徴の一つでもあるメロトロンの導入を行う。 その後も「On The Threshold Of A Dream／夢幻」、「To Our Children's Children's Children／子どもたちの子どもたちの子どもたちへ」、「A Question Of Balance／クエッション・オブ・バランス」、「Every Good Boy Deserves Favour／童夢」、「Seventh Sojourn／セブンス・ソジャーン」とコンスタンスに発表、1967年発表の「サテンの夜（Nights in White Satin）」の再ヒットの影響もあってか「Seventh Sojourn」は全米一位を達成したが、その後のワールド・ツアー（唯一の来日公演も果たしている。）終了後バンドの活動を休止させてしまい、メンバーはソロ活動に入る。（プログレッシブ・ロックの全盛期に活動しなかっtせいもあってか日本での認知度が今一つのままになったようだ。） 1977年に活動を再開させるべく「Octave／オクターヴ」を制作するが、半ばでマイク・ピンダーが脱退する。 マイクの穴を埋めるためにサポートメンバーに元イエスのパトリック・モラーツを迎えるが、パトリックを正式メンバーにして制作した「Long Distance Voyager／魂の叫び」が全米一位になる大ヒット。しかし1983年に発表された「The Present／プレゼント」はバンド史上最低のセールスとなる。（パトリックに言わせると「最低なセッションだった」とのこと。）この後ヒットの鍵を握っていると考えているパトリックとバンドの間の軋轢が生じ、1990年にパトリックは脱退。以後活動は続いているが全く売れない状態が続いている。 .
