プログレッシヴ・ロック・バンド“マンドレイク”を母体に1979年に結成。 同年、シングル「美術館で会った人だろ」とアルバム『イン・ア・モデル・ルーム』でデビュー。 “テクノ・ポップ”ブームの牽引役として一躍時代の寵児となる。 3rdアルバム『ポプリ』(81年)以降は音楽スタイルもメンバーも1作ごとに変化。 ポップ・ミュージックであることを前提にしつつも、常に革新的な音楽実験を繰り返してきた。 結成20周年にあたる1999年にはメジャー・レーベルを離れて「音楽産業廃棄物～ P-MODEL OR DIE」と銘うったプロジェクトを展開。 プロ・ミュージシャンとしては初となるインターネット上での有料音楽配信を開始するなど、新たな作品配給の在り方を提示して音楽業界に衝撃を与える。 2000年からは、1988年の“凍結”、1993年の“改訂”に続く3度目の活動休止である“培養”期間に入った。 これまでの参加メンバーは全16人(うち1人はCG)で、12枚のオリジナル・アルバムのほか多数の作品を残している。 .

Alex Hovis has been in and around, singing for the melodic, hook-y Astoria, who released the The Start Again E.P. in 2001, sold some records and ultimately disbanded. Model Rockets were a power pop and garage rock influenced melodic rock band from Seattle, Washington. They were active from the mid-90s until around 2004. They released four albums: Hilux (1993), Snatch It Back and Hold It (1996), Tell the Kids the Cops Are Here (2002), and Pilot County Suite (2003).
