Midge Ure OBE (born James Ure on October 10, 1953 in Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, Scotland) is a pop and rock and roll musician from Scotland, known for his particular success as a guitarist and singer-songwriter in the 70s and 80s. His stage name, "Midge", is a phonetic reversal of his real name, "Jim". Beginning his career in the pop rock band Slik, he would go on to play for power poppers Rich Kids and temporarily for Thin Lizzy. Things kicked into high gear when he replaced John Foxx as the singer of the famous electronic music group Ultravox in 1979. Shortly...
“…As rough as Paul Simon, as commercial as Ingmar Bergman and as sophisticated as Britney Spears!” Lonny (Lionel) Ziblat is an Israeli / Argentinean composer who was brought up in a mixture of clutures and musical tastes. Modest Midget was initialy a vague fantasy that surfaced in his mind, which eventualy found its home in the middle of the crossing point between different styles that would normally collide with each other. He gathered some songs that didn't fit in any other frame he'd known and started recording them, giving each the special attention it craved for. Strange as it may...
Sometimes galloping and sometimes trotting, The Midgetmen - Austin's slop punk mavens - finally bust out of the gate with the release of their third album: "Show Pony". Sixteen songs short, the album captures four years of The Midgetmen's unhealthy hobby through a hazy filter of feedback, beer, and confusion. Six years after forming following the tech sector collapse, The Midgetmen still sound fresh and comforting to everyone who loves late 80s/early 90s indie rock. The Midgetmen sired "Show Pony" after self releasing two previous albums, touring throughout America, and realizing that they had to capture the energetic boozy charm...
Mighty Midgets are from Denmark: 5 young men gathered around their biggest interest music. Everything from heavily political influenced songs to experiences from their own lives is blended together with a heart for the music. That`s what makes Mighty Midgets´ personal expression. The live show is filled with a lot of energy and humour. The band plays fast melodic punk with a twist of pop punk and hardcore: punk rock with a furious pace. And furthermore there`s a good connection between the crowd and the band. Punkrock with a furious pace. .
San Francisco's the Toiling Midgets formed in late 1979 as an instrumental band with Craig Gray and Paul Hood on guitars, Tim Mooney on drums and Jonathan Henrickson on bass. In 1981 the late Ricky Williams joined the band to record 'Sea of Unrest' (Instant [Rough Trade US]) and lasted with the initial lineup through a brief West Coast tour. By 1983 they'd reformed with bass player Aaron Gregory and 3rd guitarist Annie Unger (Gun Club) Over the years they've soldiered on with new members including bassists Joe Goldring (Wade, Swans,Enablers), and Seattle transplant Erich Werner (The Blackouts). They went...
