マライア・キャリー（Mariah Carey, 1970年3月27日 - ）は、アメリカ合衆国の女性ポピュラー歌手。実際の発音はケアリーに近いが、日本ではキャリーとの表記が定着している。1990年代を代表する女性歌手で、18曲の全米No.1ヒットはビートルズに次いで歴代2位である。女性アーティストとしては1位。ちなみに彼女のこれまでの総売上は2億3000万枚。女性アーティストとしては史上最速最高売上。
略歴
デビュー当時から7オクターブの声域を持つ歌姫と言われている。声域をいっぱいにまで使った曲はデビューから数年によく見られる。最も高い声を出す人としてギネス・ブックに認定されていた。アルバム『Music Box』(1993年）、『Daydream』（1995年）は全世界で各2000万枚を超える大ヒットとなった。Boyz II Menとのデュエット曲「One Sweet Day」は1995年から1996年にかけてビルボードのHOT 100で16週連続No.1を獲得。この最長記録は2007年現在も破られていない。
それまでライブを行うことは稀で、「生では歌えない」「パフォーマンス能力がない」などと揶揄されることもあった。『Daydream』リリース後に初のワールドツアーを行うが、皮肉にもその頃からヴォーカルの精彩は失われていった。1997年のアルバム『Butterfly』では、張りのあるヴォーカルよりも鼻歌のようなコーラスやフェイクが目立つようになる。音楽的にはそれまでのアダルトコンテンポラリーから、多くのラッパーを起用したヒップホップ系に大きくシフトした。またPVやステージパフォーマンスで、胸を強調したセクシーな衣装・表現が増え、これらがファン離れを招く原因となった。この傾向は後の作品でますます強くなっていく。
2005年、アルバム『The Emancipation Of Mimi』を発表。ファーストシングルの「It's Like That」がヒットし、同年4月12日はアメリカ・ABCテレビの朝の情報番組Good Morning Americaへの出演を果たした。セカンドシングル「We Belong Together」が通算14週1位を獲得、サードシングル「Shake It Off」も最高2位（10月1日付）とヒット。アルバムは2005年の全米年間セールス1位、全世界で1000万枚のヒットとなり、「Return Of Voice」と形容されるほどの劇的な復活を遂げた。アメリカン・ミュージック・アワード1部門、グラミー賞3部門など数多くの賞に輝いた。
2008年「E=MC2」をリリース。アルバムからの先行シングル「Touch My Body」はビルボートhot100で1位を獲得した。これで彼女のビルボードでのシングル1位獲得は18曲目となり、エルヴィス・プレスリーを抜きビートルズの20曲に継ぐ歴代2位についた。
2009年アルバム「Memoir Of An Imperfect Angel」をリリース。
日本では特に人気が高く、ベストアルバム『#1's』は約360万枚を売り上げ、洋楽史上最高セールスを記録した。計8作のアルバムが日本レコード協会からミリオンセラーに認定され、女性ソロ歌手では松任谷由実・浜崎あゆみ（共に10作のアルバムがミリオンセラーに認定）に次ぐ多さである。（2005年9月現在）
1994年に『All I Want For Christmas Is You』（邦題：『恋人たちのクリスマス』）がフジテレビ系連続ドラマ『29才のクリスマス』の主題歌に起用され130万枚の大ヒット。2000年には缶コーヒー「ネスカフェ・サンタマルタ」のCMに出演し明石家さんまと共演した（だがさんま曰く、別撮りである）。マライアはCMソング『Thank God I Found You』（ソロバージョン）も歌っている。
2004年には日本の唱歌『朧月夜』を歌い、『爽健美茶』・『爽健美茶 緑茶ブレンド』（日本コカ・コーラ）のCMに起用された（CD発売はされていない）。

Marianas Trench is a Juno award nominated Canadian pop rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada signed to 604 Records. The band was formed in 2001 and released their first full length album Fix Me on October 3, 2006. Some of the demos the band sent out four years before appear on the album. The band says their biggest musical influences are Queen, Foo Fighters, The Beach Boys and Ben Folds Five.
The band released their second studio album on February 24, 2009 entitled Masterpiece Theatre.
