THE BACK HORN（ザ・バックホーン）は日本のロックバンド。
ラウド、ハードコア、童謡、パンク、和、オルタナ、グランジ、
ブルース、レゲエ、スカ、ダブ、などのジャンルの音楽を取り入れ、
歌を生かした楽曲を製作している。
バンド名の由来は、
リーダーである松田が建設作業機器の
バックホー（ショベルカーのこと）を読み間違えたことから。
角や管楽器のホーンではない。
「バックホーン」と「爆音」（ばくおん）をかけているとも言われる。
結成当初は「魚雷」という名前だった。
ほぼ全ての楽曲の歌詞に日本語を用い、
タイトルも主に日本語表記（ひらがな、カタカナ、漢字）を用いる。
映画の主題歌オファーも多く、
映画「アカルイミライ」の監督・黒沢清は
「THE BACK HORNの曲がなければこれほどの映画にはならなかった」と語っている。
概要
1998年4月にGt.菅波栄純が専門学校在籍中に
他のメンバーへ声を掛けたことによりバンド結成に至る。
退廃的な歌詞に破壊的なサウンド。
戦争、平和、孤独、死、愛、生、つながりなどのテーマが多い。
2005年には台湾・スペインでもライブ活動を行った。
2006年前期、「路上弾き叫び」と称して全国の駅周辺、
商店街、公園などでストリートライブを行った。

山田将司（やまだ まさし、ボーカル）1979年10月8日生まれ 茨城県出身
THE BACK HORNにおいてのパートはボーカルのみだが、
ギター、トランペットやピアノ、アコーディオン、ハーモニカと演奏出来る楽器は多い。
ベース担当不在の時期にはベースを担当していたこともある。
菅波栄純（すがなみ えいじゅん、ギター）1979年10月16日生まれ 福島県出身
通称は「栄純」、「栄ズン」、「ズン」他。ほとんどの楽曲の作詞を担当。
自他ともに認める「バンドの核」である。
岡峰光舟（おかみね こうしゅう、ベース）1979年10月14日生まれ、広島県出身。
2002年加入
通称は「岡峰」、「光舟」の他に「女将（おかみ）」など。
新宿のライブハウスで働いていたところ、THE BACK HORNを紹介され、加入。
松田晋二（まつだ しんじ、ドラム）1978年5月24日生まれ 福島県出身
通称「マツ」。バンドのリーダー。 ライブではメインMCを務める。
「新世界」ではラップを、「天気予報」では朗読を、
シングル「空、星、海の夜」「世界樹の下で」収録のシークレットトラックではボーカルを担当している。
脱退
平林直己（ベース） 2001年2月23日に脱退(その後2005年REDЯUMに加入するも同年10月31日脱退)。
現在はカメラマンとして活動している。

Bark Hide and Horn is a four-man rock orchestra hailing from Portland, Oregon. The boys create a full, dynamic sound that, within any song, can shift from soft, haunted folk to loud, raucous blues, with hints of indie-rock, country, gospel, and mariachi escaping in between.
