　1989年、デビュー。メンバーは宮沢和史（Vo）、小林孝至（G）、山川浩正（B）、栃木孝夫（Dr）。1993年、沖縄音階が美しい「島唄」が150万枚を超える大ヒットを記録。国内だけでなく各国でカヴァーされ、中でも2001年末にアルゼンチンでリリースされたアルフレッド・カセーロによる「SHIMAUTA」は同国で大ヒットし、ワールドカップのアルゼンチン代表チーム公式サポートソングになった。 　2002年6月には沖縄をテーマにした楽曲を集めたアルバム『OKINAWA～ワタシノシマ～』を発表。THE BOOMの音楽は、世代、国境を越え広く支持されている。 　2001年から3年間、THE BOOMは野外を中心とした全国ツアーを展開。海辺、野原、丘などさまざまなロケーションの中で歌を響かせてきた。 　デビュー15周年の2004年には、5月に大阪城ホール、日本武道館で記念ライブを開催、6月30日には11枚目のアルバム『百景』をリリースした。 　2005年のツアー“Field of Songs”は、2万人が集まったサハリン（ロシア）を含む全10会場。年末には久しぶりのライブハウスツアー“MORE THE BOOM”を行なった。 　作詞、作曲を担当する宮沢和史は1966年甲府生まれ。これまでに4枚のソロアルバムと1枚のベスト・アルバムをリリース。 　ソロユニットMIYAZAWA-SICKで2005年1～2月にヨーロッパをツアー、10月には中南米ツアーを成功させた。 .
